Women of RE/MAX Masters Millennium Hold Spring Charity Event to Benefit The Gathering Place
GREENWOOD VILLAGE – The women of RE/MAX Masters Millennium, who are referred to as the “Givemore Girls,” held their annual spring charity event to benefit The Gathering Place on Wednesday, June 8, 2016 in the event center at the company’s headquarters in Greenwood Village. The Gathering Place is Denver’s only daytime drop-in center for women, children, and transgender individuals who are experiencing poverty or homelessness.
This event was organized by Broker Associate Lisa Mooney and Dawn Sena, Mooney’s assistant at RE/MAX Masters Millennium. Sarah Kinzer, Vice President of Programs and Services for The Gathering Place, was the keynote speaker, and Tina Lombard of Peoples Home Equity provided some great jazz music during the wine tasting portion of the charitable event. The evening was topped off with several games of bingo.
“We chose The Gathering Place after having the opportunity to volunteer there last fall,” said Mooney. “Seeing first-hand the often overlooked struggle of homeless women, children and the transgender population in our city, as well as the low to fixed income needs of females with disabilities and seniors, was a huge eye opener. Visiting with members at The Gathering Place and hearing their stories really brought home the fact that, under certain circumstances, we could be in their situation in the blink of an eye.
“Working in the facility’s food store gave us a sense of what members need that is outside of what we normally think of when we consider donating,” Mooney continued. “We chose to focus on only a couple of those needs, including toilet paper and pet food. While there are pet food pantries in and around metro Denver, many members are on foot and don’t have the ability to get to them. Just like us, their pets are family and they want to be able to take care of them. Many members cannot afford to purchase toilet paper, a basic necessity, so they rely on The Gathering Place for their toiletries. The facility offers a complete host of services and opportunities for members and is not just a shelter. The strength that members show is truly amazing and we felt very blessed to be able to be a part of their lives and hope to continue giving back in a meaningful manner that enriches their lives as well as ours.”
Since 1986, The Gathering Place has been a community of safety and hope where positive relationships, choice, and essential resources transform lives. The charity offers essential basic services and personal growth programs to 270 individuals every day.
